No matter your age, there's something about the start of the school year that makes you want to buy new things. A fresh pack of mechanical pencils makes math homework look pristine, the new backpack that hopefully no one else has, and of course, new clothes. Even if you're the same person inside, having new items can give you the little boost you need to be your best self.

The beginning of the new tennis season is similar. There are new team uniforms to buy, new shoes, and the one element that could elevate your game from average to exceptional is a new tennis racket.

My friends at Wilson were perfectly timed when they asked me to review the new and improved Wilson Ultra V5! Already a fan of the Ultra, I eagerly accepted the opportunity.

Tennis enthusiasts are always on the lookout for equipment that can enhance their game. With the recent release of the Wilson Ultra V5 tennis racket, many are curious if this new model truly meets expectations. In this detailed review, I'll examine its features, performance, and overall value to determine if the Ultra V5 can indeed elevate your play.

Design and Aesthetics

The first aspect that captures attention about the Wilson Ultra V5 is its sleek design. This racket showcases a modern aesthetic with a striking color scheme featuring bold shade of electric indigo. Not only does it look impressive on the court, but it also has a professional vibe that players appreciate.

Important updates feature SI3D technology, which enhances frame flexibility for increased power, spin, and control, specifically aimed at intermediate and advanced players. FORTYFIVE° technology enhances stability, resulting in more consistent strokes and increased confidence with each shot. The enlarged sweet spot with extended dwell time improves pocketing, while the dual-tapered beam design maximizes power without compromising forgiveness.

Performance on the Court

The Ultra V5 truly excels in performance. After my trusted racket stringer "Aussie Mike" set it up with my favorite Wilson NXT Power 18 String at 52 pounds, I took it for a spin. I was pleasantly surprised. Having used the previous V4 model for the past year, it felt incredibly comfortable. I could generate impressive pace and depth effortlessly. The larger sweet spot and more flexible frame provided a slight edge, even when my contact wasn't perfect with each stroke.

Comfort and Feel

Comfort is another highlighted feature of the Wilson Ultra V5. Utilizing Wilson’s innovative grip technology, the handle minimizes vibrations, providing a comfortable grip during extended matches. This is particularly helpful for players who experience discomfort during long sessions. Moreover, the racket's weight distribution is designed for a natural swing.

Versatility for All Playing Styles

The Ultra V5 family has a model suited for every player, including juniors. Whether you prefer a lighter racket for more swing speed or a heavier model to generate easy power, theres a V5 verison for you. I prefer the V5 100 which is the most popular of the line. If you prefer a lighter version the V5100L is a great option.

Comparing with Previous Models

Much like our tennis game, the Wilson team is continually seeking new methods to enhance their performance. After playing with the Ultra V4 last tennis season, I observed several significant upgrades. The V5 offers a more polished feel and greater power, along with enhanced stability. Although the V4 was an excellent option, the V5 marks a considerable advancement, perfect for those aiming to further develop their skills. As my game strengthens, so does the level of my competition. It ultimately boils down to small advantages, and I'll seize any opportunity that helps me improve.

Price and Value

The Wilson Ultra V5 comes at a competitive price point within the mid-range market, making it accessible for various players. While it might not be the least expensive model, the quality and performance make it a wise investment. The adult versions range from $229-$259 and the junior versions start as low as $119.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, the Wilson Ultra V5 tennis racket is truly transformative. Its sleek design, exceptional performance, and comfortable grip cater to a variety of playing styles. Whether you're an experienced player or a beginner, the Ultra V5 offers something to elevate your game.

If you're in the market for a new racket, the Wilson Ultra V5 should be on your shortlist. It's a worthwhile investment that can elevate your performance. The best way to know is to try it out yourself, take it to the courts, and see if it lives up to the high expectations!

Val
